The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Updated: Mar 14, 2020

Hello Everyone!

** spoiler alert **

From the moment "The Maze Runner" opens, and Thomas is being raised into the Glade, the questions are all about the Maze. Can he get out? Can he survive? Later it is all about the escape. What is the plan? What about the grievers? What happens now that they can get out of the Maze? This book is intense, some could even say gory at times. All of the characters are rather interesting and the dynamic between Thomas and the other Gladers, and eventually Thomas and Theresa is really interesting. I especially like that this book is mostly about a group of boys. I especially like the fact that Thomas defended Theresa and didn't let the guys touch her. That may have been a smaller point but I respect that Dashner added that in. I am not going to spoil anything more but the ending will make you want to read the rest of the series and such a cliff hanger. It reminds me of the end of "Ender's Game."

Some Cons: The language. It seems like Dashner wrote in cuss words and then the publishers were like "Well, we can't have cuss words because it would make the reading audience smaller, so we are just going to change the language and call it unique." It just seemed kind of pointless.

A 4 out of 5 stars for some slow parts but over all, "The Maze Runner" is a very good read.
