What is up, Everyone?
I hope that you are enjoying your first sunburns and ice cream cones of the season. Today, I am jamming to the new Panic At The Disco album and announcing some of the books that I am the most excited about between now and August. Considering that I am including June in this post, it is a little late. However, I couldn’t really include September, because I clump it with in with fall releases (along with October and November), which is another post unto itself. So here we go!
June
June 5th
Little Do We Know by Tamara Ireland Stone
Okay. This cover though? Absolutely gorgeous! I have heard fantastic things about Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone, but I never ended up picking it up. This book sounds like it might change my mind. I am hoping for a hard hitting contemporary that conquers religion better than Nice Try, Jane Sinner. Although it sounds a little cliche, in that it centers around an accident and separated friends, something about the description really captured my attention. It has also been getting pretty good reviews so far, even though it hasn’t been out all that long.

The Fragile Ordinary by Samantha Young
I saw this one on Netgalley a while back, but didn’t end up getting an ARC for it. However, I still put it on my TBR because the cynicism of the narrator, and the fact that she is also a blogger, has been interested. Again, the plot sounds pretty cliche. I am specifically writing about the part where a bad boy from somewhere comes and shakes up the protagonist’s life. Yet, this one has also been getting a series of five star reviews that say it is a heart wrenching read. Maybe that means it has promise, but we’ll see.
The Art of Escaping by Erin Callahan
Along with The Fragile Ordinary, The Art of Escaping was another book that caught my eye when I was perusing through Netgalley a while back. I haven’t seen many books focused on escapology, especially YA books. It seems like an incredibly interesting jumping off point for a book that is about friendship and authenticity. I am stoked, because my library is buying a copy of this book, which is rare for books that aren’t super hyped. However, I am looking forward to getting my hands on it.
My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodie Meadows and Brodi Ashton
Out of all the books on my list, this is BY FAR my most anticipated release. If you follow my stuff, you will know that My Lady Jane was one of my favorite reads from last year. Although it was a little too long, which made it drag in parts, it was absolutely hysterical, and I adored the plot, writing style, and all of the characters. Even though I know pretty much nothing about Jane Eyre, I am hoping that the author’s style and their twist on the classic tale will have me head over heels for the second installment in the Lady Janies series. I don’t have extra money to spend on books right now, but if I did, this would be sitting on my shelf right now.

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James
So it turns out that this book (at some point. I am not sure when??) got moved to last September and is already published. I just checked other people’s 2018 releases shelves on Goodreads, and they also had this marked as a release for July of this year, so I don’t feel as bad. Anywho, I am interested in reading this book, and now I don’t have to wait!
July 31st
Sea Witch by Sarah Henning
Ursula is one of my favorite (if not my favorite) Disney villains. Therefore, when I heard that there was a retelling of sorts coming out that focused on her story, I was sold. I am not exactly sure when I am going to get my hands on this, since it isn’t being purchased by my local library. Still, I am hyped. It also has a beautiful cover.

The Darkest Legacy by Alexandra Bracken
(This is the paperback cover. Even though I love the representation present on the hardcover because it features Zu, who is Asian, I think that this cover is much more aesthetically pleasing. I really am not a huge fan of the other cover.)
When I heard that there was another book in the Darkest Minds series coming out this year, I freaked out. Then, I got panicky. I never really felt that I needed more from this world. It felt very complete to me at the end of In the Afterlight. Alex said that there was an idea worked into one of the short stories from Through the Dark that she felt she needed to follow. Yet, she also said that she struggled a lot when it came to working out the exact details of the story. After just finishing my reread of the Darkest Minds series, I think I have had my fill for now. However, after I see the movie, I might be hyped to read more from Zu’s perspective. I am not sure how I feel about this book yet, but I am interesting in seeing what other people think of it and if it is worth reading.
August
August is rough. There really isn’t anything that I want to read. Toil and Trouble by Jessica Spotswood and Tess Sharpe is coming out on August 28th, along with Mirage by Somaiya Daud. While these books sound intriguing, I am not breaking down walls to get early copies of them. I also know that I will be in the first chunk of Junior year at sleep away college, so my reading is going to go down the drain in the second half of the year. Still, they were worth mentioning. I know a lot of people are hyped for Toil and Trouble, so we will see what the early reviews look like.
And that's it! Those are all of the books coming out this summer that I am excited about. Summer is usually the slowest when it comes to new releases. I find that most of the books that I am hyped for each year are usually published in the fall or end of winter/early spring season. Still, this year there are quite a few promising reads that I am hoping to love. Let me know on twitter, @officalsamepage, which books you are excited to get your hands on during the last part of the summer.
See you next week!
Jaime
